— J.R.R. Tolkien, (editor) Christopher Tolkien; 1988
The sixth book in the History of Middle Earth series. It discusses the genesis of the first half of the Fellowship of the Ring (Book I), and includes some draft versions of Elvish poems and phrase from that part of The Lord of the Rings. Given the early nature of this writing, its words are best classified as Noldorin and (Middle) Qenya, even though they are the precursors to the Sindarin and (Late) Quenya words of The Lord of the Rings.
References are by page number; the first 2 digits of the decimal value are the line number, and the last 2 digits are the word position in the line.
