Dan. [f]

Dan. [f]

The voiceless labial spirant [f] developed initially in both dialects of Danian from the aspirate [pʰ] as well as from initial primitive [p], which became [pʰ] and then [f] (PE19/18, 22). Medially, however, the resulting [f] generally voiced to [v], though it was still spelled “f” (PE19/23). It is possible that [f] survived medially in some combinations of consonants, but they are no attested examples.
