Ad. glide consonant [w] or [j] was inserted between [u] or [i] and a following distinct vowel; [uøV|iøV] > [uwV|ijV]

Ad. glide consonant [w] or [j] was inserted between [u] or [i] and a following distinct vowel; [uøV|iøV] > [uwV|ijV]
Where [u] and [i] came into contact with a following distinct vowel, the result was not a diphthong. The vowels were pronounced separately with a glide in between, which later developed into a [w] after [u] and a [j] after [i] (SD/424). The rule remained functional into Classical Adûnaic, where the glide-consonant continued to serve a grammatical function.
