Q. Máhan, pn. “one of the eight chiefs of the Valar”

A title for the chiefs of the Valar, equivalent to Aratar (WJ/399). It was an adaptation of the Valarin word māχanāz “authority” (WJ/402), as opposed to Aratar which was a translation of that Valarin word.
