N. Osforod loc. “Northburg”
An earlier name for S. Fornost that appeared in Lord of the Rings drafts from the 1940s (TI/120, 129). It seems to be a combination of ost “city” and forod “north”, as suggested by Roman Rausch (EE/2.17).
