Conceptual Development: This name appeared as Handir in Silmarillion drafts from the 1930s (SM/129, LR/139), and in The Etymologies of the 1930s Handir was a Noldorin name, a combination of hand “intelligent” and dîr “man” (Ety/KHAN).
