A root in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s given as fol- replacing deleted ful-, with derivatives like G. fluim “(black) smoke, reek” and G. foltha- “to emit smoke, smoulder, reek” (GL/36). In Noldorin of the 1930s, it seems this root was replaced by ᴹ√USUK of similar meaning.
