ᴱN. balt¹ n. “might” (Category: Strong, Mighty, Powerful)
A word for “might” in Early Noldorin Word-lists, initially glossed “a plain” (PE13/138). As suggested by the editors, the meaning “might” is probably connected to G. bâl (bald-) “worthy, important; great, mighty” from the the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s, derived from the early root ᴱ√vḷd (GL/21), while the meaning “plain” is probably connected to G. bladwen “a plain” (GL/23), which is likely based on the early root ᴱ√PALA or *ᴱ√BALA (QL/71).
