ᴺQ. !anyára adj. “elder, senior” (Category: Old)

ᴺQ. !anyára, adj. “elder, senior” [created by Boris Shapiro, PPQ] (Category: Old)

A neologism for “elder” coined by Boris Shapiro in Parma Penyanë Quettaron (PPQ) from the early 2000s, an intensified form of Q. yára “old”, analogous to S. einior. Sami Paldanius suggested it might also mean “senior” in the 1000 Words project (1000W). Some Neo-Quenya writers instead use ᴺQ. amyára based on Tolkien’s 1967 system of intensives (for example in the Neo-Quenya New Testament), but I prefer an-, especially given Tolkien’s phrase Elainen tárin Periandion ar meldenya anyáran “*to Elaine, queen of Hobbits and my very old friend”. See the entry for the Quenya comparative for further discussion.
